SINGAPORE โ€” A woman dressed suspiciously like Mary Poppins is assisting police with investigations after allegedly scattering bird feed along Marina Bay in what authorities described as โ€œa coordinated and prolonged feeding operation.โ€

The incident triggered an immediate multi-agency response involving the National Environment Agency (NEA), Singapore Police Force, and at least one officer from the Smart Nation Sensor Division.

According to witnesses, the woman calmly opened a small pouch and began distributing crumbs to nearby pigeons while humming softly to herself.

Authorities quickly cordoned off the area using official โ€œNO BIRD FEEDINGโ€ tape while forensic teams photographed several slices of bread believed to have been used in the offence.

โ€œToday itโ€™s breadcrumbs,โ€ said NEA Director of Urban Avian Deterrence Gong Jiao Wei. โ€œTomorrow it could be entire baguettes.โ€

Gong warned that feeding pigeons disrupts Singaporeโ€™s carefully managed ecosystem and may encourage unlawful bird congregation.

โ€œThese pigeons begin developing expectations,โ€ he explained. โ€œSoon they are loitering, forming social circles, and in extreme cases, reproducing.โ€

Investigators confirmed the suspect acted alone, though officers are exploring possible links to an underground network of elderly park-based feeders operating across the island.

At press time, authorities confirmed the woman had been issued a warning and advised to redirect her nurturing instincts toward government-approved wildlife, such as community cats or indoor succulents.
