I refer to my lunch on Tuesday.
Like many hardworking Singaporeans, I ordered a perfectly ordinary plate of chicken rice, expecting the universally accepted ratio of chicken to rice. Instead, I received what can only be described as "si beh niao".
The rice occupied approximately 94% of the plate. The chicken, I think still in Geylang.
One slice was so thin that I briefly mistook it for a reflection.
When I asked the stallholder if this was the normal portion, he confidently replied, "Enough already."
Enough for whom? A hamster?
I therefore urge the relevant authorities to establish a Minimum Chicken Requirement (MCR).
Some may accuse me of making a mountain out of a molehill. To them I say: if you've paid $5.50 for chicken rice, you should receive enough chicken to confirm that a chicken was indeed involved.
I sincerely hope action will be taken before future generations grow up believing "chicken rice" refers merely to rice that once heard a chicken cluck.
